In The Beginning

In late 1954, the Rudge family took over Necton garage and petrol station. At the time, they were living in Northwold, and Jack Rudge travelled daily to work in Necton.

In March 1955, the family moved to the bungalow adjacent to the garage. The building to the east of the garage was (we believe) a car showroom, but not in use at that time.

The business also included a fuel station with two pumps, offering (we assume) petrol and diesel.

This photo was taken from the workshop, with the A47 beyond the pumps. On the far side of the road was an AA (or is it RAC?) box.

Soon after taking over the business, the petrol station was upgraded to provide five petrol pumps adjacent to a new kiosk, and two diesel pumps nearer the garage.

Behind the garage and bungalow, was a area of land that offered an ideal adventure playground for the children. We suspect that in this day and age, health & safety considerations might have spoilt the fun!
